Afternoon excursion near Mae Rim, Air Diamond Cafe
When we were driving north to the Dantewada Waterfall Park, we passed an actual airplane just off the main highway. Mukda said it was a coffee shop but she had never stopped there. On the way back from Dantewada, I suggested that stopping there might be fun.
Air Diamond, part of the Black Canyon Coffee chain, is a coffee shop in an actual Airbus A330-300 airplane that was in service with Thai Airways before it was retired. Air Diamond/Black Canyon also has another coffee shop in an Airbus A340 down south near Bangkok outside of Pattaya. They charge an entry fee of 150 baht (about $4.50) which includes a coffee drink onboard.
Here are Mukda, Anna, and Yui with their ticket about to board. It is a little difficult to read, the sign shows the temperature of 38C (100F).

And here is me with my ticket about to climb the stairs.

At the top of the stairs, Mukda is about to go inside, and then all three ladies inside:

Here is a photo of the inside after passing the coffee shop part. The seats are actual airplane seats, a little larger than what is seen today, and the seats are well-spaced with tables for drinks.

I got a photo of Mukda taking a photo of Yui and Anna in their seats. This shows the table in front of the seats better.

And here are Mukda and me in the seats we chose.

Mukda likes yellow because she was born on a Monday. In Thai culture, there is a color associated with each day of the week and Monday is yellow (also why she is wearing a yellow shirt). For interest, here is a table showing the colors, celestial body, and god associated with each day of the week in Thai culture.

After relaxing inside the airplane, we headed south to Chiang Mai.
I have three days remaining this winter in Chiang Mai. Likely my next post will be traveling home.
