Flowers on the walk to Story 106
This blog entry is all flowers, the flowers I see when I walk from The 3-Sis to Story 106.
The afternoons are hot in Chiang Mai. I don’t want to be out exploring or hiking in the heat, so I get out of my room at the 3-Sis and go to Story 106, a co-working space, have an iced latte and work on my blog. If it is early enough and not yet too hot, I walk the ~1.4 kilometers. If it is too hot or I am too tired from a strength training workout or a yoga class, I get a motorbike taxi for about 40 baht ($1.25). When walking, I notice flowers seeming everywhere. I decided to photograph the flowers I see on that 1.4 kilometer walk, and when I got to Story 106, I had over 50 pictures.
Flowers in vases are in almost every business and restaurant – the Thais love flowers. Which is why the flower market is always busy.
Next to The 3-Sis is an upscale hotel called Chala No. 6. The first thing I see from the front of 3-Sis are the flowers along the side of the restaurant at Chala No. 6.

In front of Chala No. 6 are many other flowers, including these:

And near the actual entrance to Chala No. 6 are two ponds with water lilies:

Walking down Phrapokklao Soi 8 (sometimes spelled as three separate words, Phra Pok Klao) there are flowers all along the soi. Like these, many are very cheerful.

There are flowers of almost all colors, these white flowers seem to be the same plant as the orange:

Further down Soi 8 are more orange flowers on a bush:

Just before passing a temple (Wat Pha Khao) on Ratchadamnoen Road Soi 4 is this tree with bright, cheerful yellow flowers next to a house.

Wat Pha Khao has one of many, many bougainvilleas in Chiang Mai, this one is fairly large, but smaller than many.

Then on Moon Muang Road Soi 3 I saw a different bush with orange flowers – many orange flowers out today.

Crosses the inner moat road on the west side, Moon Mueang Road, then across the outer moat road, Kotchasarn Road. I could have walked down Tha Phae Road, a major road lined with businesses on both sides, but chose a more peaceful and colorful route through the sois. So I went down Soi 1 and saw another large bush or tree with different yellow flowers than the previous.

The sois here are not direct, but meander, and after a couple of turns I was on what I’m pretty sure is Tha Phae Road Soi 3. I saw another bush with yet more orange flowers:

After a couple more turns and onto Tha Phae Road Soi 5, next to a block wall, all by itself was this yellow and orange flower, almost like a calla lily, but maybe not.

Just past that was a bush with dense bunches of delicate looking purple flowers.

Along the soi, there are more bushes with purple flowers.

After a turn, a tree almost all white with flowers dominated my view:

Still on Tha Phae Road Soi 5, I saw another bush with bright yellow flowers.

Just past that, in front of a guest house were a few orchids.

Another bush with pink flowers:

Then just before leaving the soi one last bougainvillea, really two bushes combined, one red and one pink:

Then I was on Tha Phae Road, just 80 meters from Story 106. That is just a sample of the flowers I see along the way – there were many more on that walk, a walk I make frequently.
Next: Excursion to Mae Rim and Wat Pa Darapirom
nice.
