When I had my last two-hour hot stone oil massage with Jang Niyomwong at Loi Kroh Massage, I told Linda about it, and she asked if I could schedule one for her, too. Today was the day. Linda was to be at 1:00 PM, then Jang would take a break and I would be at 3:30 PM. Linda and I walked out Loi Kroh road, outside the moat on the SE side, and soon got to Soi 3 (Lane 3) where, just 30 meters up the lane, is the purple gate and Loi Kroh Massage. We were a little early, and Jang was getting the room and the stones ready, so we had some lemon grass tea while we waited. I had brought my Kindle and my notebook, so I was able to occupy myself easily while I waited.
Linda was finished and went off to shop along Loi Kroh Road, where there are many craft shops. I had my massage, and it was definitely worth the wait. After, Linda and I walked back to the center if the old city. An idea entered my mind that we might have dinner at a highly recommended restaurant, the Whole Earth. It is walking distance from Loi Kroh Massage, but because Lucia and Jo indicated that they may come into town for dinner, I wanted to go back to 3-Sis and see if I had a message from them (I had forgotten to bring my phone). There was no message, so I had one of the people at 3-Sis call Whole Earth and make a reservation — reservations are highly suggested, as the Whole Earth is often full, even on weekdays.
Whole Earth Restaurant
We got a tuk-tuk to the Whole Earth, as it is a good distance from the center of the old city. As soon as I arrived, I realized that I had eaten there before, on my short visits in 2003 and 2006. The setting is very nice, a two-story building in the middle of gardens. We had a balcony seat, and probably would have been eaten alive by the mosquitoes, but with the remaining coconut oil on our skin from the massages, the mosquitoes may have just slipped off.
The Whole Earth is a mostly vegetarian restaurant, although they do serve some dishes with chicken and pork. We ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken with vegetables.
And we also ordered the Pad Thai, and shared both.
Since the Whole Earth makes their own ice cream, we both opted for a sundae. Mine was pineapple with coconut ice cream, and it disappeared too fast for me to get a picture.Oops…it was very good!
We walked back to the center of the city, a slow walk. It was a good day with the hot stone oil massages and the good dinner.
